What Coronavirus is? | Symptoms of Coronavirus | What to do if there are Some Symptoms?

What are the symptoms of the Covid-19 virus, how does it travel, and what to do if suspected?

What is Covid-19—some background info about the disease that originated from Wuhan, China

This article focuses on the discussion as well as remedies for any symptoms of coronavirus if suspected in anybody.

This disease owes its existence to a member of the coronavirus family, unfamiliar and unrecognized earlier. This, like a variety of other coronaviruses, spreads from animals. Most of the people affected by this lethal virus either used to work in or were most frequent shoppers in Huanan seafood marked in Wuhan.

Some Symptoms of Coronavirus

Most commonly, the virus causes pneumonia. The victims of the deadly virus reportedly suffer from heavy coughs, high fever accompanied with breathing complications. In extreme cases this leads to organ failure. Being a viral pneumonia, antibiotics do not work on it. The antiviral drugs used as a cure for flu do not work. Recovery from this deadly virus is dependent on how much the immune system is strong or resistant to adverse effects. Many of the victims who died of this virus had poor health, which meant they had poor immune system to thwart any danger from the outer world.

Does the Doctor Need to be Consulted if You have a Cough? | Symptoms of Coronavirus?

UK Chief Medical personnel are directing those who has been to the UK from mainland China, Japan, Thailand, Republic of Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Macau or Malaysia during the last fortnight to be careful about their health. Further they are advising those who have a cough, shortness of breath or fever to avoid going into the  public places and to stay indoor till they are cleared by the doctors. They must call NHS 111, even if they think symptoms are mild, because the mildness of symptoms do not mean safety.

Does the Virus Get Transmitted from one Person to Person?

China’s national health commission makes it clear that this virus has the quality of human-to-human transmission. They were able to asset this after they rigorously checked and assessed the various symptoms of coronavirus. They make this claim on the basis of solid evidences which confirm that this transmission has occurred already.

How Many People have Become the Victims? | Any Data about Symptoms of Coronavirus |

So far, the onslaught of coronavirus has hit 80,000 people worldwide. The deadly virus has caused 2,663 deaths in mainland China out of 77,658 cases. Most of these cases have been reported to have occurred in the central province of Hubei. The positive aspect about it is that around 12,000 victims in China have survived the infection, and have been discharged from the hospitals.

The coronavirus has been transported to at least other 30 countries of the globe. The worst affected countries include Japan, where the number of cases is 850, including 691 from a cruise ship docked in Yokohama. Four out of these cases ended in the death of the patients. Likewise, Italy has registered 229 cases with seven sad deaths, while in South Korea there have been reported 893 cases including eight deaths. The death cases due to coronavirus have been reported from Taiwan, Hong Kong, France, the Philippines and Iran.

As of UK, 13 cases have been registered to have been confirmed case of coronavirus. However, the ratio of fatalities in the UK so far is zero.

Why is Coronavirus more Lethal than Common Influenza, and why are the experts so much Worried?

It is not known so far as to how deadly the recently discovered coronavirus is. Nobody can be sure unless more data comes in in terms of victims and the unfortunate death toll. The death rate so far is around 2% in the city of its origin, Hubei province which in itself is less than that elsewhere in the globe. Comparing it with the common seasonal flu, it is evident that the seasonal flu particularly has a death rate below 1% and reportedly causes about 400,000 deaths per year worldwide. Likewise, SARS had a death rate of higher than 10%.

Another aspect which is unknown and which makes the virus more formidable is how contagious the coronavirus is. A fundamental difference is that contrary to the common flu, this newly discovered virus has no curing vaccine to counter it. That means it is makes the already vulnerable members of the population more exposed to danger–elderly people or those with existing respiratory or immune problems. Cleanliness complemented by frequent hand-washing and limiting your socialization with other people if you feel the danger are typically advised for you. The best and the most sensible thing to do in such an eventuality is to get the flu vaccine. This reduces the load of responsibilities on health services if the outbreak turns into a wider epidemic.

Is there any History of Coronaviruses?

Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) are the results of coronaviruses acquired from animals. In 2002, SARS spread more rampantly to 37 countries. This caused a lot of global terror, while infecting more than 8,000 people. It killed around 750 people globally. MERS cannot be easily transferred from human to human, but has greater killing capacity, killing 35% of about 2,500 people who got infected.

Is the Outbreak Alarming? Can it be Labelled as a Pandemic?

The answer is a “No” luckily. A pandemic, as WHO puts it, is “the worldwide spread of a disease”. The spread of the virus outside China is alarming but not something unexpected and uncontrollable. The WHO has marked the virus as a public health emergency of international perspective. The fundamental points are how transferrable this coronavirus is among people and how many people become dangerously ill which end up in the hospitals. Mostly those viruses that are easily transferrable have a weaker impact with no or very little alarm. Generally, the coronavirus appears to be affecting older people more strongly because of their weaker immune system. It has been recorded that the coronavirus has little impact on children as there are negligible case of the virus hitting children.
